Although it is not a necessity, some people find it very helpful to take extra vitamins while on the HCG diet. But before you do decide to add a vitamin supplement to the HCG diet, it is a good idea to check with your physician to ensure the extra supplement will not adversely affect your health.
What vitamins are helpful during the HCG diet?
Vitamin B12 and a B-complex supplement are helpful during the HCG diet as they can boost your energy levels, improve digestion, ensure the nervous system remains healthy, and help keep your hair, skin and nails in good condition. Vitamin D is essential for healthy living and the best way to increase your levels of this important vitamin is to spend some time in the sunlight. A minimum of ten minutes per day is recommended to maintain optimum levels of vitamin D, but avoid oil based sun creams.
But in general, the best way to ensure you are getting the right levels of vitamins and minerals every day is to eat a varied selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and natural whole foods. For example:
Vitamin C can be obtained from fresh fruit, in particular citrus fruits. Omega-3 is found in fresh fish and a good source of calcium during the HCG diet is dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach.
Do I really need to take extra vitamins during the HCG diet?
Lots of people worry unduly about the restrictive nature of the HCG diet. They mistakenly think that perhaps they will become anemic due to the limited number of foods they are allowed to eat. But in fact this is not the case and as Dr. Simeons was keen to point out in his HCG diet manuscript, “Pounds and Inches”, for every pound of fat that is burned, all the nutrients are fed back into the body.
So HCG dieters should not worry about running out of essential vitamins and minerals while on the HCG diet. Taking extra vitamin supplements is optional, but not essential, so you only need to take them if you feel it might benefit you in some way.
